1. PTTC was created through Executive Order 133 dated 27 February 1987 entitled” “Reorganizing the Department of Trade and Industry, its Attached Agencies and for Other Purposes”.
2. PTTC is at times mistaken to be a government corporation. It is an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry and draws its budget from the National Government.
3. As a JICA project, PTTC received technical assistance which lasted for 5 years (1987 to 1992).The assistance ended upon JICA’s evaluation that PTTC was a success project and could continue to operate on its own.
4. Part of JICA’s assistance to PTTC is the assignment of long term experts for training course development. A total of 15 Japanese experts worked with PTTC from 1987 to 1992.
5. PTTC held office at Hall 5 of the International Trade Center Complex before moving to its own building.
6. The building was constructed by the TAISEI Corp. of Japan equipped with earthquake-proof construction technology. It was able to withstand the strong August 1990 earthquake.
7. No less than President Corazon C. Aquino formally inaugurated the PTTC Building on 23 May 1988. It was graced by top government and industry leaders.
8. PTTC celebrates 3 different anniversaries :
27 February 1987 – Official Creation
1 October 1987 – Start of Operations
23 May 1988 – Formal Inauguration of the Building
9. PTTC is a member of DTI-International Trade Group.
10. The first seminar offered by PTTC was Basics of Exporting which was conducted in 1987.
11. At present, the average age of PTTC employees is 47.32 years old. The youngest personnel is 32 years old while the oldest is 63 years old.
12. Of the 13 pioneer staff, only 3 are still with the Center: Executive Director Adelaida L. Inton, Teresita Zoleta, and Mylene Mangosing.
13. The original number of PTTC plantilla positions in 1987 was 108. Presently, it has a total of 81 plantilla positions. In the government’s rationalization program for implementation in 2010, the Center will have 60 plantilla positions.
14. PTTC is a showcase of women in management. From its creation, it had only 1 male executive director compared to 5 executive and deputy executive directors.
15. PTTC has had 4 Executive Directors since 1987. They are Antonio J. Tria Tirona, Ma. Angelina V. Angeles, Ma. Fina C. Yonzon, and Adelaida L. Inton.
16. Talking about achievements, PTTC is recognized as a Model Center of Excellence by the ASEAN Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC) Working Group on Human Resource Development. It is one of the accredited training institutions by the Civil Service Commission and the Professional Regulation Commission.
17. The PTTC Employees Association was created in 2000 and was fully supported by Management to uphold the welfare of the staff.
18. In 2004, PTTC received a grant from the Korean government thru the Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion for the establishment of an Information Access Center, presently known as the Philippines-Korea Internet Plaza (PKIP). The grant was facilitated by Commercial Attache Nicanor Bautista.
19. PTTC has expanded its focus on young students who dream to become entrepreneurs. The Center embarked on a nurturing project entitled “Business Incubation for Young Entrepreneurs” to launch the new business ideas of the youth. It has also tied up with the Department of Education for the Annual Teen Negosyo event.
20. To improve its front-line service delivery to clients, the Center installed a PTTC Services Inquiry Desk in January 2007. The desk is manned by an Officer of the Day who services all walk-in and phone inquiries regarding PTTC seminars, events and facilities.
