Market Information Seminar Highlights Key Pointers for Exporters

With the intent to help new and existing exporters successfully gain access into target export markets, PTTC has included in its training offerings a series of market information seminars. Thru these sessions, participants will get to know the consumer profile of the top export markets including channels of distribution, market access issues, product trends, and important tips in dealing with buyers.

The initial offering was held last March 9, 2010 entitled “Understanding Your Export Market for Gifts, Toys, Furnishings and Furniture” specifically for USA, High End China, and the Middle East.

The main resource speaker, Mr. Delfin Bibat has an extensive experience dealing with exporters since he worked as country manager of Southgate Ltd in the Philippines and Indonesia. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors in the Foreign Buyers Association of the Philippines (FOBAP) for many years.

In the discussion, Mr. Bibat emphasized that exporters should focus on on-time delivery, quality of products and right pricing as required by foreign buyers. He also shared valuable tips to the participants such as:

  • Production sharing – This entails pooling and clustering of small manufacturers to accommodate volume of export orders.

  • Alternative Pricing – Exporters should be ready with their pricing schemes for various types of buyers. This can be achieved thru production volume discounts, use of alternative materials, and product simplification leading exporters to enhance their ability on product engineering.

The seminar also described the markets’ current situation – USA which is recovering from the global economic recession; Middle East going very liquid due to impending oil price increase; and China which is a high growth market is seen showing bright potentials for Philippine products.

The next PTTC market info seminar to be held on May 18, 2010 will focus on European Union market.
