"GLOBAL FOOD SAFETY: A CHALLENGE TO PHILIPPINE FOOD SMEs"

Awareness of food safety risks and opportunities, especially among food producers and consumers has been a growing concern in the global market such that efforts to address this was undertaken by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Thus ISO 22000:2005 or commonly known as Food Safety Management System, was formulated and approved in 2005 by the ISO members. FSMS is a global food safety management system standard that ensures that food products from the farm to the consumers do not cause adverse human health effects. It applies to all entities who are directly and indirectly involved in the food chain from the food growers to the product processors, handlers of all food and food ingredients and packaging distributors, storage providers, and up to when the food products are placed on the table of the consumers.
